Inchcape Publishes 2023 Sustainability Report, Reinforcing Commitment to Sustainable Growth
Inchcape plc, the leading global automotive distributor operating in more than 40 markets worldwide, today publishes its inaugural Sustainability Report, setting out the progress made in achieving its 2023 sustainability targets and its enhanced role supporting the mobility transition.
The automotive industry is one of the most adaptive and innovative. Inchcape acknowledges its role in supporting global climate targets and has enhanced its approach to sustainability under the banner of The Global Mobility Transition, Delivered Locally.
Operating responsibly is central to Inchcape’s role in accelerating the performance of its mobility partners and continuously strengthening relationships with key stakeholders. Inchcape closes the knowledge-gap across markets through local expertise by supporting its partners to deliver more sustainable mobility solutions that are right for the unique needs of each market and region.
Demonstrating measurable progress in 2023 through a commitment to make its own operations more sustainable and inclusive, Inchcape reached significant milestones across the four key pillars of its Responsible Business framework, built around Planet, People, Places and Practices.
Highlights from last year include:
- Achieving a 6.6% year-on-year reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions, bolstered by the rollout and the installation of solar power at over 40 sites.
- Through programmes to nurture and develop talent, over 100 women graduated from the Women into Leadership programme since its inception and leadership positions held by women increased from 22% in 2022 to 28% in 2023.
- More than 800 colleagues enrolled in the Early Careers programme.
With a focus on enhancing governance, culture and safety, last year saw the rollout of an updated Code of Conduct in 35 countries, as well as 21 road safety initiatives.
“Our 2023 Sustainability Report is an important milestone for our business as we expand the scope of our reporting and transparency. It also underscores our dedication to driving positive change within our industry. We’re constantly working to embed sustainability further into our business strategy and improve how we measure our impact,”
said Duncan Tait, Chief Executive Officer at Inchcape.
The progress made last year takes Inchcape closer to reaching its overarching sustainability targets. These include reducing absolute scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 46% by 2030, from a 2019 baseline, and reaching net zero emissions across these two scopes by 2040. The approach to reaching these is aligned with the global mobility transition, adapting to consumer trends, regulatory requirements and emerging technologies.
Through these environmental targets, Inchcape provides the lowest carbon route to market for its partners – creating a transition that is inclusive and long-lasting. Inchcape supports its partners with unparalleled data, experience, and the expertise of its colleagues across 40+ markets, to deliver the right solutions in each market and improve mobility for all.
Mike Bowers, Chief Sustainability Officer at Inchcape, said:
“In the midst of the automotive industry’s ongoing transformation, Inchcape sees the ‘mobility transition’ as both a challenge and an opportunity. With a keen understanding of the unique local dynamics driving this shift, we are steering the course towards sustainable mobility. Our commitment lies in enabling an inclusive transition, respecting the diverse needs and speeds of different markets while ensuring widespread access to mobility.”
